Victoria Maxey becomes this year’s youngest MRS conference awards judge
Victoria Maxey, an Associate Director at Illuminas’ London Office, became an MRS conference awards judge for the first time in 2012. Victoria commented, ‘I was delighted to be asked to take part in the awards judging at this years MRS Conference and found it both motivating and exciting. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but really enjoyed listening to the other judges as well as giving my views on both the written papers prior to the Conference and the sessions themselves. The volume of papers we were given beforehand and the number of session to attend seemed a bit daunting at first, but mostly the different styles and topics made for interesting reading and viewing. It was a great year for new talent with the Special contribution to Conference award going to a group of young, first time presenters and I hope that this only spurs more young researchers to take part in events like Conference in the future.’ Victoria is on the steering committee for R-Net, the MRS group for young researchers in the industry to network and learn at special events throughout the year. At Illuminas, her judging skills are already legendary as she participates in and regularly judges the charity cake baking competitions held at the London office.
